No

How unbearable,

how difficult it is for a kind,

gentle, non-confrontational person

to pronounce this short word!

Fundamental. Sharp.

Able to offend and hurt the pride of others.

No.

No halftones,

not the slightest hint of “maybe”,

“I’ll think about it”,

“what if? ..”.

Short and sweet: NO.

For “yes,

I agree” they don’t touch,

in the worst case they will despise or disdain,

but for “no” in the easiest option:

subjected to moral,

and even physical humiliation,

they can be convicted,

fined, deprived of liberty,

sent into exile,

subjected torture or sophisticated ostracism,

in the end, they can be executed.

And, of course, your “no” can be neglected.

Everything can.

Except one thing: to force you to give up your no.

A bold and calm “no”.

Don’t hesitate to say “NO”.

Even when it’s very scary.

When the crowd around roars “Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!”

and demands blood.

“NO” is your human dignity.

The most precious thing we have.

Except you…

I tore all your photos.

But it did not help. I remembered you.

I went very far and never came back.

But it did not help I remembered you.

I met with others and was loved.

But it did not help. I remembered you.

I got drunk - like dead, like a shoemaker, like a tramp, like the last creature.

But it did not help. I remembered you.

I got married, had children, became home-grown.

But it did not help. I remembered you.

I’m getting old.

Everything is eroding from memory.

Everything.

Except you.

God loves poets

    My biography

My adult life began at the age of 15,

with what other lives usually end with:

I was shot.

But not to the end.

Therefore, on my 19th birthday, Captain Verevkin ordered me

to be shot a second time on the Soviet-Finnish border.

Fortunately, this order was canceled at the last moment.

I graduated from the Mining University in St. Petersburg and

for many years I was engaged in various minerals:

I searched and extracted copper, lead, zinc, tungsten, platinum,

gold, diamonds, jadeite, precious stones, coal, oil and gas.

I have worked underground at a depth of 2,200 meters and

in the mountains at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level,

I have walked the Siberian taiga and the Arctic tundra,

I have been to places where there is not a single living person

within a radius of 500 kilometers.

Without telephone and radio communication,

on a polar night in the icy Arctic desert,

together with two comrades in misfortune,

I froze in a broken all-terrain vehicle

without a single chance of salvation.

Among the Siberian taiga, I saw a car that exploded

and burned down with the driver, in which I was supposed to be.

They threw a live grenade at me,

they tried to sell me at the slave market in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Many miracles happened to me before I wrote about my life crazy poems…

Four years ago I had a stroke, the left part of my brain stopped working,

my right leg and right arm almost did not obey me,

but I wanted to fly a paraglider.

They told me, “You’re crazy, you can’t fly.”

But I answered: “to fly, me need wings. I am a poet, I have wings!”

And I flew.

A year ago, my chest was dissected, my heart was removed,

the aorta was replaced and

the heart was inserted into my chest again…

I live. I write poetry. I enjoy every day.

I love this world and I know that

God loves poets!

Albert Marquet and Edgar Degas

At first I came to the Hermitage

in order to eat.

Student friends explained to me

that besides paintings and sculptures

The museum has a really cheap cafe.

For students entrance to the museum

In those days it was free.

And I enjoyed - first the food, then the paintings.

I went up to the third floor

In my favorite hall of abstractions by Kandinsky,

Then moved to the Van Gogh and Albert Marquet room

I felt like I was in France there.

I noticed that sea water must be viewed from a distance.

Next to the picture, it is impossible to recognize.

Marquet taught me this. I am grateful to him.

Soon I saw paintings by Edgar Degas.

I saw them and guessed

That the artist had big vision problems.

He didn’t see well. But he saw the point.

Many years have passed and now I can’t see very well either.

But now I know exactly what Degas saw.

He painted a lot of naked and half-naked women,

But no one knows anything about his mistresses.

This can be explained if you also have poor eyesight.

Degas painted light.

Fluttering dancing graceful living light.

Where you see women, the artist has seen the Light!

The women of France are the light of France,

Degas taught me this.

I was lucky to be born on the same day as him -

July 19.

Tree

Artillery shots. Foxtrot sounds.

Villages and ancient manuscripts burn.

And only the tree outside the window keeps waiting.

Whenever you glance at it

The mind darkens. Ice crumbles.

A fiery moon ascends.

And only the tree outside the window keeps waiting.

Whenever you glance at it

You wander around for days on end.

Walls before you. Walls behind you.

Nothing is any use.

And only the tree outside the window keeps waiting.

Whenever you glance at it

Echoes turn into a watery abyss.

Time collapses and vanishes.

And only the tree outside the window keeps waiting.

Whenever you glance at it

You turn into snow falling.

Into a whisper in darkness.

But the tree outside the window keeps waiting for you

For this tree is just like you.

Prayer for a woman

My good Lord, please,

grant the woman who is reading these lines now

everything she expects in her life.

If she is waiting for a loved one,

let him return to her alive,

healthy and happy.

If she’s worried about the baby,

keep him/her safe.

If she doesn’t have shelter, money, and bread,

give her everything she needs right now.

Light up her life with love and

understanding of her loved ones.

If she was wrong about something

or sinned, do not judge her,

forgive her, because

You are more merciful than us...

Let her life become the same holiday

as this spring day!

I know

that You can do anything

and I

hope for You,

Your Eldar.

There …

Where the weightless birds sing emerald songs,

Where the flying sky is ringing from minaret heights,

And the moon shines, ascending in a capsized abyss,

And a variegated handsome hoopoe flashes in the morning...

There, in the palms of the ridges, a mountain echo turns over,

A above the seashore foliage frolics on wind,

There people do not sleep only from love,

there people cry only with happiness and laughter,

Where I’m going back and I’m never gonna die...

It is snowing

I don’t remember the date of the day

From childhood early when

We shouted at the window:

“It is snowing! It is snowing!”

It was snowing, it was cold.

From wind something shivered.

You kept me carefully on hands and smiled.

And we shouted “Snow’s coming!”

So joyful and sincere,

What from that day every year

He also falls obediently.

And every time on the eve of winter

Barely winds turn into snowstorm,

Again it seems to me,

That you and I are loud scream,

and it is snowing...

The present dawn was quiet,

Only the heart suddenly got sick after midnight...

“She is no longer in the world,”

My sister reported in the morning.

But only the phone was silent,

How the snow went all over again …

I wanted to shout … and could not.

I couldn’t exhale a word!

Flying, flying fun snow,

Circling and falling like an echo...

It ‘s not true you ‘re not here.

Look: how much snow…

It is snowing…

Light

The light has neither age nor shadow,

There is no “yesterday” or “tomorrow”. Everything is “now”.

Fall on your knees before him, the sacred one,

Look into it without taking your eyes off!

Look at the stars, at the moon, at the sun

And the clear gaze of the past is not sadness,

While he is rushing at speed,

Permeating the distance with immortality...

While the planet wakes up

(And somewhere he falls asleep while walking),

There is nothing around except the light,

Which I will someday enter!

Crying in bird’s tongue

You look me in the eyes. And he is with you, kissing.

You look me in the eyes. Dark skies are turning grey.

The morning’s come. The wind is gently breathing.

The clouds up above are soaring far away…

The scar near my lips… No, it is there, still there.

I’ll touch it with my tongue. It’s there, and still stings.

And high in the blue sky, with clouds everywhere,

See how my soul, like a little birdie, rings.

You feel me so well, although he’s there with you,

He strokes your hand without saying a word.

Unnoticed, I look at you, flying high up in the sky

And crying up above, a-chirping like a bird…
